KL Photography on Modern Photographers

logo.pngModern Photographers: [...] Have you ever noticed that photography is one of the rare industries that requires no licensing or certification? Just about anyone can pick up a camera and claim to be a photographer with absolutely no experience. Unfortunately, many couples and families have been harmed by the actions of some wreckless “photographers”.
Modern Photographers was created to give those looking for artistic professionals a place to connect with qualified working visual artists. Our members have been voted on by true professionals in the industry. [...]

So I am very proud that my business is approved and listed as one out of two from Kentucky.

Onward and Upward!

New logo, new name. New outlook. New, new, new. New! That is one of those words that start to sound funny after you say it a few times.

Wildlife In The City

Beautiful backyard visitors this morning–two red-shouldered hawks.

Weddings, Weddings, Weddings! Louisville, Cincinnati, Lexington

Excited to meet another couple this morning for a 2010 wedding. Inquires are rolling in fast and furious, and dates are filling up! Hooray! Such an exciting time of year, so many new engagements! Congratulations to all my new wedding clients in Kentucky and the entire region!

Elegant Wedding Photography (hee hee)

I am 99.999999% sure this is a joke intended to prove a point, but either way, it is too good not to share. Another photographer friend came across this posting on Utah’s Craigslist. It does kind of make it easier to understand why hiring a professional is so important! I’m just copying the text below because sometimes these farcical Craigslist posts disappear rather quickly, so I apologize for any quirky formatting.

Hope everyone is enjoying the snow! (In my opinion, if it is going to be as cold as it has been lately, I’d at least like snow to go with it!)

Hi there! My name is Lindsay and I’ve just got a brand new camera for Christmas but haven’t even taken it out of the box. I really want to get into the wedding photography business because I see so many people in Utah are getting married and it looks like easy money. I can’t guarantee that even one photo will turn out looking good but I sure will try. Some pictures will be used for my portfolio and my future website. I start booking appointments this week! I am now booking for Spring and Summer of 2010.

I specialize in all types of Lifestyle photography including:

Weddings – You’ll have to pay $15 for gas money outside of Salt Lake City
Bridals
Engagements
Families
Children
Portraiture
Fashion

My style is classy, elegant and artistic. I would be honored to be part of your special occasion or photography needs considering I have no professional experience. I would love to capture those beautiful moments for you and your family.

I have so much passion for being a pro wedding photographer! All my friends and family tell me I take great pictures at all our outings and picnics. I’m putting together a web site of all the flower pictures and sunsets I’ve taken so you can see how good I am. I even have a few pics of my pet dog which turned out really great!

But I don’t have a business license, liability insurance, flashes, extra batteries, or even more than a kit lens that came in the box. If something goes wrong, you’re out of luck. To keep things cheap for you, I won’t even back up any of your images. Less cost for me means less cost for you. Just passing the savings on. I expect to be paid in cash or personal check because I don’t plan on claiming this income on my taxes.

I know many fun and beautiful locations. I really care about making brides look beautiful! I add glow and selective color to all of my images, giving them the best look possible. No need to hassle with computer programs.

Bridals and Engagements are only $100. Please trust me to do your wedding. I’ll do it cheap just to build up my portfolio. I will only charge you $250 for your entire wedding day. This is a deal. My camera cost me $700 brand new. All sessions include a Hi Resolution CD with FULL copy right release included, which means you get to print your pictures at Wal-Mart! Here’s the BEST Part! I offer 100% guarantee on ALL my sessions! Don’t pay a cent until you are 100% happy with your pictures!

I own a camera therefore I can take photos like the pros, who charge alot more. Most brides in Utah spend $2,500 on professional wedding photography. Since I have no experience I’ll only be charging $250 (90% off regular wedding photography prices) to shoot full day wedding coverage.

Think about it: Pros charge alot of money because they have alot of expenses. I don’t.

Pros have:
-a business license
- multiple cameras
-thousands of dollars in lenses and flashes
-hard drives to back up the images
-insurance
-experience
-people skills
-color calibrated monitors
-professional print labs
-professional albums

I have none of this stuff so we’ll keep it cheap, just for you!

E-mail me if you want to set an appointment or if you have any questions, I will gladly respond.

Photobooth fun at your Louisville, Cincinnati, Lexington, or Indianapolis wedding

A photographer friend of mine from Indy also does a neat photobooth rental business for weddings and other events. Now through February, he is offering a special discount of $200 off the normal rental price. Lots of neat extras come with the booth too, such as unlimited on-the-spot prints, and a disk of all the fun images for the bride and groom. And, just because MY clients ROCK, he is willing to knock off the travel fee from Indy to Louisville during the sale promotion as well! See his site for more details, and make sure you mention you heard about it from moi! INFO HERE!

And because I’m such a fun-loving gal and good sport, here’s a super silly photo of me taken last April when Chad brought his booth to a convention I attended.

NOLA 2009

I decided to take a short break from blogging weddings and post a few from my recent trip to my beloved New Orleans.  I am swamped these days with Christmas orders and albums, so it was nice to take a few hours and do just a bit of personal work to share here, for something different.  My brother and I had a wonderful time, and I am so excited at the prospect of once again spending more time visiting, since he is moving there in early 2010.  I have carried on a love affair with this place since I first started going (I won’t say how long ago), but I haven’t had the chance to go back since the storm.  I will not stay away for long again!  Many thanks to my dear friend JB for being such a gracious host.

Email is back! And a great deal…

Thank goodness–I didn’t realize how much I rely on email until it’s gone!  I’m worried about any inquiries or business emails I might have not received yesterday, so please re-send if I didn’t respond to you.

Anyway, my Mac mighty mouse’s roller ball has been getting stuck for a couple of months now, so I finally made a (very) rare trip to the mall to have it replaced (no questions asked, no receipt needed!  Go Mac!).  Anyway, I took a shortcut through the cosmetics store Sephora at Oxmoor, and saw a great deal on Bare Minerals makeup.  The starter kit was only $60, which I think is less than half of what it usually goes for.  I think you can also find this deal on their website.  A short testimonial–I had a bride last July who used it, and let me tell you, after a 2 hour outdoor photo shoot in the middle of the afternoon, she still looked flawless.  No shine, nothing but still perfect looking skin.  She looked as fresh entering the reception as she did entering the ceremony.  I was so impressed–it was one of the hottest days of the year and the humidity index was through the roof.  So, I just thought I’d pass that info along in case any of my brides were considering their make-up options for the big day.
More pictures to come soon–I’ve been hard at work on albums, and recently taxes (UGH), so I’ve got tons of things I still need to blog!

Email is down!!!

If you’ve tried to contact me today, your email probably got bounced back.  My email server is down, and after 5 phone calls today, they now tell me it might now be back up for another 48 hours.   Needless to say, I’m not thrilled.

Anyway, please keep trying to resend any important messages, and eventually they will get here.  Or feel free to call me at 502-544-1716.
I’m so sorry for any inconvenience!

Why Do My Photos/Album Take So Long? (and some freebies)

I found this blog post from the wonderful Anne Ruthmann, and I found it to be so helpful and informative for clients.  Since she explains the process so much more eloquently than I ever could, I am just linking the article here.

Now, for some freebies!  The Wedding Chicks’ site is chock full of great info and ideas for planning your perfect wedding.  I found 2 really neat ideas there, and free templates to DIY!  Enjoy!
